Schema Transformation Processors for Federated Objectbases
نویسندگان
چکیده
In contrast to three schema levels in centralized objectbases, a reference architecture for federated objectbase systems proposes five levels of schemata. This paper investigates the fundamental mechanisms to be provided by an object model to realize the processors transforming between these levels, namely schema ezlension, s&emu filtering, and schema composition. It is shown, how composition and extension are used for stepwise bottom-up integration of existing objectbases into a federation; and how extension and filtering support authorization on different levels in a federation. A powerful View definition mechanism and the possibility to define subschemata (i.e., parts of a schema) are the key mechanisms used in these processes.

On Schema and Functional Architectures for Multilevel Secure and Multiuser Model Federated DB Systems
This paper presents an approach for thigtly federated database systems with several federated schemas that consist of a schema architecture and a functional architecture. The reference schema architecture has been extended to deal with security aspects not well solved previously. The functional architecture includes the processors needed to build the federation and the main modules of the execu...
متن کاملIntegrity Constraints in Federated Database Design 1
In this paper we demonstrate the application of a methodology for federated database design. Federated database design includes the transformation of heterogeneous local schemata from the native data models of the component database systems into a common data model, the integration of these homogenized schemata into the federated schema, and the derivation of external schemata for global applic...
متن کاملConsidering Integrity Constraints During Federated Database Design
Correct transformations and integrations of schemata within the process of federated database design have to encompass existing local integrity constraints. Most of the proposed methods for schema transformation and integration do not sufficiently consider explicit integrity constraints. In this paper we present an approach to deal with integrity constraints. Our approach bases on the idea to r...
متن کاملFlexible Integration and Derivation of Heterogeneous Schemata in Federated Database Systems 1
In this report concepts for the process of schema integration and transformation in Federated Database Systems (FDBS) are suggested, which are exible in the integration of local and in the derivation of external schemata. An FDBS has to support diierent data models of local database systems. Furthermore, it has to ooer a means to derive external schemata, which can diier in their underlying dat...
متن کاملAxiomatization of Dynamic Schema Evolution in Objectbases
The schema of a system consists of the constructs that model its entities. Schema evolution is the timely change and management of the schema. Dynamic schema evolution is the management of schema changes while the system is in operation. We propose a sound and complete axiomatic model for dynamic schema evolution in objectbase management systems (OBMSs) that support subtyping and property inher...
